CHARITABLE GIVING
The Vitamin Shoppe is currently involved with four signature charities that support many outstanding organizations. We also support numerous regional organizations that are dedicated to health and wellness in the communities where we do business.
VITAMIN ANGELS
Vitamin Angels is a non-profit organization dedicated to reducing child mortality worldwide by advancing availability, access and use of essential micronutrients, especially Vitamin A, to newborns, infants and children under five. In 2010, Vitamin Angels connected over 24,000,000 children in 43 countries, including the US, with the vital nutrients they need as a foundation for good health. www.vitaminangels.org.
The Vitamin Shoppe has raised more than $1 million in donations for this cause since 2007 and supports Vitamin Angels through additional in-kind donations. The Vitamin Shoppe has also participated in field visits with Vitamin Angels. NATIONAL MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS SOCIETY
The Vitamin Shoppe is a corporate partner of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and shares in the vision of moving us all closer to a world free of MS. The Vitamin Shoppe and its employees embrace this vision through event sponsorship, product donations, and the support of more than 15 cycling and walk teams across the United States. “Team Vitamin Shoppe” is proud to be a part of Bike MS and has nearly 200 participants in a dozen states. These teams raise money and participate in local Bike MS and Walk MS events to help increase awareness and raise donations for this worthy cause.
The Vitamin Shoppe is the presenting sponsor of the “Bike MS: Coast the Coast” ride in New Jersey, and is also a sponsor of Bike MS: New York City. All customers are invited to join the members of “Team Vitamin Shoppe” by making a donation, volunteering at an event, or participating in a ride or walk with their local store team. COMMUNITY FOOD BANK OF NEW JERSEY
The Vitamin Shoppe donates products monthly to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey through our distribution center in North Bergen, NJ.
The Community FoodBank distributes 37 million pounds of food and groceries a year, ultimately helping to feed more than 900,000 people per year in 18 of New Jersey’s 21 counties.. The Community FoodBank’s mission is to fight hunger and poverty, working with more than 1,500 non-profit programs. You can find out more at www.njfoodbank.org.
KIDS IN DISTRESSED SITUATIONS (K.I.D.S.)
The Vitamin Shoppe partners with Kids in Distressed Situations (K.I.D.S.) to donate water and nutritional items to areas that have been devastated by natural disasters. K.I.D.S. is a global charity of leading retailers, manufacturers, and licensors of children’s and youth products, in partnership with major foundations, committed to helping improve the lives of children and their families who are ill, living in poverty, or are victims of natural disasters.
K.I.D.S. pioneered a unique charity model more than 25 years ago that today aligns hundreds of companies with more than one thousand leading local agencies in the United States and around the world. Eighty-five percent of their donations are distributed to agencies in the U.S. and the remaining fifteen percent to countries abroad. This alliance donates children’s clothes, books, toys, and juvenile products... and brings hope... to children and their families at risk. OTHER DONATION REQUESTS
Local Charities
If you are a local charity interested in applying for a product donation for a local event, please send an email to press@vitaminshoppe.com. Each request should be sent at least 6-8 weeks in advance of the event. Only charities that are support the health and wellness of those served by a local Vitamin Shoppe are eligible to apply.
Please include the following information:
• name of the charity and event
• name of event
• when and where the product is needed
• email and phone number
• contact name
• organization Tax ID number
• state where the charity is formally registered as defined by the IRS Code 501(c)3
Product donations are made on a "one-time" basis in order to help as many local charities as possible.
RESTRICTIONS
We donate to tax-exempt, nonprofit organizations; we do not donate to individuals or to families directly.
We support programs that focus on health and wellness that are within the trading area of a local Vitamin Shoppe.
We do not support the following:
• Scholarships or other direct support to individuals or families
• Religious, fraternal, political, labor, athletic or social organizations, civic clubs, candidates or projects
• Special events, such as conferences, dinners, sports competitions or exhibits
• Sponsorship of fundraising events (i.e. dinners, walks, golf tournaments and auctions)
• Individual bodybuilders, fit models and sports teams
• Capital campaigns, endowments or endowed chairs
• Institutional overhead and/or indirect costs
• Film, music, television, video or media production projects or broadcast underwriting
If we feel there is a potential opportunity, we will respond and request additional information and documentation.
