VITAMIN SHOPPE DONATES WATER TO NORTHWEST HOUSTON RELIEF EFFORTS
NORTH BERGEN, NJ, September 29, 2008 – The aftermath of Hurricane Ike can still be felt in local communities near Houston, where residents have been lining up for food and water. Local Vitamin Shoppe stores partnered with the charity Nourish America, Representatives Debbie Riddle and Patricia Harless, and Houston NW Chamber Barbara Thomason to help those in need.
“We have health enthusiasts based in our Houston stores,” said Kelly Smith, District Manager of Houston for The Vitamin Shoppe. “Our first priority was for the safety of our associates; then we turned our attention to helping our community. Our friends at Nourish America were able to connect us with those in Northwest Houston who were in the most dire need of basic supplies.”
The Vitamin Shoppe quickly dispatched a truckload of water to the area to be distributed by the NW Chamber and the representatives. Vitamin Shoppe water company Iceland Spring also supported the effort by donating 20% of the truck of spring water to this drive.
"When the life of an entire region is turned upside-down from a storm the size of the state of Texas (600 miles in diameter), people emerge who really come to the rescue. We meet folks who have hearts bigger than the hurricane,” said Representative Debbie Riddle. “My constituents and I cannot adequately put into words the depth of gratitude that we feel for those very people who have hearts bigger than Ike, like the people from Nourish America and The Vitamin Shoppe who have been so generous providing an entire truckload of priceless water to us during this time of extraordinary challenge for so many."
