Comments about the Vitamin Shoppe Astaxanthin 4 MG - 60 Softgels:

Bought this product after reading and researching it. I have been taking now for 3 weeks and notice a overall feeling of well being. My eye focusing has gotten better, muscle recovery, and joint welling have all improved some. So, I would imagine even more improvement over time! Started to notice a little difference after 2 weeks. Take 2 (4mg) caps after breakfast.

Comments about the Vitamin Shoppe Astaxanthin 4 MG - 60 Softgels:

I had doubts about this antioxidant when starting to take it since there is all of the hype surrounding it. That may seem counter-intuitive, but I have rarely found effects with products that others seem to rave about.

My primary reason for purchasing astaxanthin was for claims that it helps one's vision. I am myopic and find my eyes are most strained when I am having to sit at the computer for a few hours. I noticed the cited benefit of astaxanthin reducing eye strain and helping the eyes adjust more readily after computer use being true in my case with a 4 mg daily dosage.

What I have not experienced so far on the 4 mg Astaxanthin dosage for 4 weeks are effects such as visual acuity improvement due to reduction of inflammation in multiple areas of the body, including the eyes. Another reported effect is increased exercise capacity and prevention of sunburn. While I have not begun to exercise more in a single session, I am exercising more frequently and not experiencing pain so maybe there has been positve effect there. I have also not been out in the sun for extended periods which in my case is more than a couple of hours because I work outside and am not fair-skinned. I have noticed slight redness still which is normal for me when I am in the sun a couple of hours; this is again after taking the 4 mg dosage for a full month.

My Dad has Macular Degeneration & his surgeon recommends taking this with Lutein, Zeaxathin (Ocuvite Adult 50+)start taking it sooner so you may NOT have to take those SHOTS in the EYEs to stop the bleeding in your eyes like my DAD did, he did this for 18 months at $3000.00 per shot.

I take Astaxanthin to prevent sunburns and it is the most remarkable supplement. I do use a sun tan lotion, but for years burned anyway or was left without a tan. Now with Astaxanthin, I do not burn or have pain even if I turn a little pink. It is like a miracle to me and my family. We were in Florida this winter and I managed to brown up a bit, but with no pain or extreme redness. I did not use suntan lotion one day and only turned pink, but no pain. This spring during baseball practice my grandson used it and has not burned and is turning brown. He is a true redhead. Of course you should always use suntan lotion, too. Together they work miracles.

I am only 23, and yet I developed chest pains and tightening from sitting at a computer desk for 40 hours a week. At night the pain and discomfort would prevent me from sleeping. Little did I know, this discomfort was because of mild inflammation. Within two days of taking Astaxanthin, my chest pain and discomfort disappeared. I used up the bottle and did not replace it to see what would happen. It's only been three days, and already the chest discomfort has returned. So long as I have this desk job, I will continue to buy this product! Highly recommended!

I bought this product at the suggestion of Dr. Oz after I couldn't get the swelling to go down in my feet, ankles, and even legs. My doctor even doubled my lasix and the swelling still wouldn't go down. After only a few days on this product, the swelling went down and has stayed down. I take 4 mg of Astaxanthin once a day and probably will for the rest of my life. It's a miracle drug if you ask me. If it hadn't happened to me, I wouldn't have believed it. But it did. And I'm feeling better everyday!

I use astaxanthin for all its purported uses, but the relief of pain is the best thing for me. I have a ruptured disc from an accident. The doc said that the pain was caused by the proteins released from the disc causing inflammation. I read that the bad proteins would be eliminated faster with antioxidants, hence the pain would go away faster, and astaxanthin is the best. It really helps. Also, I had symptoms of fibromyalgia and I believe astaxanthin helped that too. I feel great when I use it regularly. I also give it to my athlete daughter to help her with concentration and muscle aches/fatigue.

For joint relief and eye health. It has helped with the inflammation in my shoulder. I ran out once, and had to purchase a different brand, and it did not work! As soon as I started back on the Vitamin Shoppe brand, the pain went away.

I need to know how much DHA is in them??

Best Answer: None. Astaxanthin is a unique antioxidant that quenches free radicals at both ends of its molecule. It is a carotenoid, a pinkish pigment found in some algae and some seafood, like salmon, trout, lobster, shrimp and krill.

DHA (docosohexaneoic acid) is a 22 carbon chain fatty acid molecule that is one of two main fatty acid consituents of fish oil (the other being EPA), or is present by itself in a vegan form, produced from algae. It is a major constituent of neuronal cellular membranes and makes up about 1/3 the dry weight of the brain.

Although astaxanthin does not itself contain DHA, it is present in certain fish (as above), which DO contain DHA, which may be the cause for your question.

Will this product help overcome ED?
                                        Ben D on Oct 13, 2013
Best Answer: No. It is an antioxidant. For ED relief, try L-arginine in high doses (2-3 grams on an empty stomach, about 90 minutes before desired activity).
