Comments about Vitamin Shoppe Caprylic Acid (2163 MG) - 100 Capsules:

I have had recurrent monthly yeast infections for about 12 months. I have been taking this product for a month and a half. The first month I started taking it mid cycle and it made no difference. By the same time next month my symptoms were drastically reduced. Only very mild yeast infection symptoms. I did not have to take any drug store or prescription meds to clear up the minor itching. I just continued the caprylic acid and stepped up my probiotic and the symptoms cleared up! I just bought another bottle and hope that next month will be even better.

Having suffered from yeast infection because of antibiotics in my youth, I have been using this product as long as I can remember. This capsule is easier to digest than the pills. Having it delivered to the house is a bonus. Keeps my gut balanced.

Margie M asked: I usually take the smallest amount of any over the counter products, (one aspirin usually does the job), so how many capsules do you take a day, and do you use Caprylic daily or sporadically as needed? When mold spores are high or if I eat sweets I get lethargic; my nose, ears and head stop up. Jan 12, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
alexander m: It sounds like you have some yeast in your sinuses. If you have it there, you probably also have an over-growth of it in your gut. Depending on how long you've had it, it might take you a while to clear it out. I would start with one capsule per day for the first week and go up from there.

You will more than likely have some "die-off" symptoms, so listen to your body and go slow. If, when you increase your dosage, you feel worse than you can handle, drop back to the lower dose for a while longer before going up again..

I avoid sugar as much as possible while you're on caprylic acid and drink lots of water to help flush out the die-off toxins. What also helps me, when I'm killing yeast , is to take a warm bath with epsom salts before bedtime. It helps me to get rid of the toxins too. Adding vitamin C to my regiment helps me too (at least 1,000 mg/day).

I've only used caprylic acid for long periods of time so I'm not sure if taking it sporadically will help. I guess you could give it a try and see what happens, but, as I mentioned earlier, it sounds like you might have an overgrowth that might require more consistent use. Hope this helps...

            M E H: Interesting, Margie.
I too take the smallest doses of any natural supplements (dont't take any synthetics)
I dose myself sporadically with the caprilic acid teamed up with candida cleanse, probiotics and plain yogurt. I too get symptoms with sugar consumption added to my vegetarian diet rich in whole grains and other plant protiens..ALL ACIDIC. But I get urinary symptoms! (unresolved urge to pee etc) When I get symptoms or know I will need to protect myself, I use it. I monitor myself. (Kind of a way of life.) You may want life to be simpler <;o) pH and colon health IS the way to boost your immune system and fight off allergens naturally.

            Tayla P: Dear Mary Ellen,

are your bladder symptoms a result of the caprylic acid or does the caprylic acid relieve bladder symptoms that are a result of the candida infection? I am interested in this product, but not if it will make my bladder worse. Thanks! Feb 21, 2013
Jana D: I use Caprylic Acid because it was extensively tested by the medical community and is listed in the Physcian's Desk Reference of Non-Prescription drugs a a remedy for overgrowth of Candidiasis in the digestive tract. Some doctors have recommended Caprylic Acid in lieus of Nystatin. It is a long-chain fatty acid found in coconut oil. It is 100% nature and hypoallergenic. It works well for promoting digestive health.

I recommend you test your reaction to the dosage. I have found that 1-2 capsules a day promotes good health and suppresses allergic reactions to molds, etc.

Margie M: Thank you Jana, for your description of Caprylic Acid and your recommendation. I have been using 1-2 capsules daily for a couple of weeks and it does help temporarily even though I am very allergic to mold and household chemicals. Your answer encourages me that things will get better. Jan 30, 2013
LORI D: Caprylic Acid is for the systemic overgrowth of yeast or fungus. It helps with chronic yeast infections or fingernail or toenail fungal infections. Your symptoms do not match what it is used for. You should look into a homeopathic remedy that matches your symptoms and any other symptoms you have even if they seem unrelated. There are several homeopathic companies online that can help you diagnose the remedy you need. Jan 17, 2013

Amber R: My husband and I take natural antifungals daily as a routine. We alternate weekly between Caprylic Acid, Oil of Oregano, Garlic and Olive Leaf (all in capsule form). If we feel like we are coming down with anything, we take them many times during the day. For routine, just one in the morning and if feeling ill, two many times a day. Jan 14, 2013

Nancy R S: I use caprylic acid for intestinal candida and I usually only take it when I've overeaten sweets and need it. Then I usually take 3 or 4 at a time, 2x per day and avoid all sugars, yeasts, etc. until I have relief. There have been times when I have taken a couple daily as a maintenance. Jan 14, 2013

Walter F: I take one a day in the morning as a maintenence dose. If I eat more sweets I will take 2 a day for a few days. The important thing is to watch your diet if you eat too many sweets you will need a higher dose. Jan 21, 2013
