Moringa oleifera is the best known and most widely cultivated of the 13 species of the genus Moringaceae. Moringa is a slender tree with drooping branches, pods (sometimes referred to as "drumsticks"), seeds and leaves. The Moringa tree is grown mainly in semiarid, tropical and subtropical areas, and in dry, sandy soil. It is a fast-growing, drought-resistant tree that is native to the southern foothills of the Himalayas. In developing tropical countries, Moringa trees have been used to combat malnutrition as it is one of the richest plant sources of nutrients.

In gram-for-gram comparisons of nutritional data, Moringa has higher amounts of several different vitamins and minerals, such as vitamins C, A, calcium and potassium than the common foods often associated with these nutrients. Moringa also contains a wealth of other complementary vitamins and minerals, antioxidants, and other naturally-occurring phytonutrients. In addition, while rare for a botanical to contain all essential amino acids, Moringa leaves contain all of the essential amino acids, in good proportion, which are the building blocks of protein. The leaves are the most nutritious part of the plant.

Can moringa be used by diabetics that are on oral meds and insulin?
A Vitamin Shoppe customer on Apr 16, 2014
Best Answer: According to all of the write-ups I have seen about moringa it not only is OK for diabetics, but actually lowers blood sugar when taken in the form of an aqueous leaf extract. How that compares to these capsules I am not sure, but can see no way it could be harmful!
