I have to have chewable products due to recent gastric bypass surgery. This product met my doctor's requirements and met mine with a very palatable taste. In other words "Yummy"! Very easy to chew down to small pieces and no bad aftertaste.

Comments about Pioneer Chewable Calcium Magnesium - 90 Chewable Tablets:

I have been taking this calcium supplement for more than a year now. It has helped my hair, nails and bowels due to the magnesium. My hair was already thick and able to grow, but this product causes it to grow even faster. Most importantly I am 52 and need this product for my bones and bowels - it does not cause constipation like some of the other calcium supplements - it does the job well. And, it has a pleasant taste.

I normally avoid taking calcium supplements (even though it's incredibly important for young women) due to them either being the chews with corn syrup or bulky pills...but this product has completely changed that!--They taste so good I actually look forward to taking them every day!

              Dorothy D: Hi Wendy,

These are not chewy but rather kind of chalky. I actually originally purchased these for my son who had braces at the time. He is super picky, and did not care for them. So I used them and ended up liking them. They are sort of large and chalky, but very coco tasting. You would want to have a drink to wash them down, or maybe break the tablet in half. I gave my son a choice of these or a tablet to swallow, and he surprisingly went the the tablet to swallow. Good luck!

Brie J: Hi Wendy, I love these and the taste is great, but definitely not chewy like charamel. It is as you describe as "chalky", with a consistency similiar to sweet tarts, tums calcium, etc. Hope this helps!

Marcia B: This is a chewable flat tablet about the size of a quarter with a chocolate flavor, not chewy like a caramel. Wouldn't get stuck in braces and not chalky. Oct 2, 2013

Dorothy D: I am no expert, just another mom. I don't have this product any more (have used it up) but I seem to remember the ingredients being good. I had purchased this for my 15 year old with braces that could not use a sticky chewable calcium. This is very chalky and he did not like the texture. I personally used these and did like them very much. I think the flavor is very good, more of a dark chocolate than milk chocolate, but they are very, very chalky. You can easily break the tablets into smaller pieces and chew them that way, with some sips of a drink in between. I would not let a 9 year old chew the whole tablet at once. I appreciate that they are gluten free. Feb 5, 2014
Reply to Dorothy Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Michelle R: I think that is something you will have to do your own research on - regarding need and dosage for someone that age. You can also ask your physician if you feel they believe in supplements for children.

One of my children thought these were tolerable, another did not like the gritty consistency at all. They are not tasty, but tolerable with a drink, in my opinion.

Tracey T: I'd say yes it's safe for some kids, but it's best to ask an expert like your pediatrician. Feb 4, 2014

A Vitamin Shoppe customer asked: Hi, I'm looking for a plant based calcium rather than a rock based one. Does anyone know which this is? Thanks, Jul 5, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Merri B: I did not know the answer to this question. So I called Pioneer directly (800-247-6505). The woman I spoke with advised me that the calcium is either limestone-based or sea water based. I asked her how it could be two different things. She said it depends what materials are available at the time of production. So you wouldn't know from one bottle to the next. You might want to call the toll-free number and see if someone else tells you the same thing that I was told. Good luck! Jul 5, 2013

vivian k: as I read the label on the bottle. this is made from cellulose, guar gum, vegetable stearic acid, vegetable magnesium stearate, and natural dark chocolate flavor. organic stevia (leaf extract).

other than knowing that cellulose and leaf extract are plants, not sure if this is what you are looking for?

Lisa T: Unfortunately, I can't answer your question. My nutritionist recommended this product to me a few years ago and I have been satisfied with it. I can't tell you anything more than what's on the bottle and in the product details online. Jul 6, 2013
