Normally I am in excellent health. Last fall through winter I had congestion of the lungs. I tried a popular homeopathic remedy found in the pharmacy section of stores that required me to take every three hours and up to 48 hours after symptoms go away. This was most difficult to do. Whenever I missed the schedule through the nights, my health would reverse and I'd have to start all over again. Recently I was reading 'Herbs the Magic Healers' by Paul Twitchell. He mentioned that tea made from the root of Butterbur is used in clearing the chest and lungs of phlegm and that it is also used for treating coughs and tightness of the throat and chest, all of which I was suffering from. Although what I purchased from Vitamin Shoppe were pills, not tea, taking a small monetary risk, I ordered this product. Taken as directed, everything cleared up within a week.

It was recommended that I use butterbur for migraines. I am 53 and have had migraines since I was 17. The butterbur was very effective in the prevention of migraines however I wondered why my skin was itching at night and why I was sneezing during the day. The itching became so intense that I could not sleep! I checked online and found that butterbur is related to ragweed. Please note - I have had allergy testing and did not show any allergy to ragweed - nonetheless I was having a pretty significant reaction to the butterbur! Within a few days of discontinuing the use of butterbur the itching and sneezing completely stopped. Please be careful with this product and if these symptoms occurr be aware that you are having an allergic reaction! Act accordingly!

Comments about Solaray Butterbur - 60 Capsules:

I have been fighting migraines for months until I found natural supplements/vitamins & herbs. This being one of them. This has worked reduce my migraines a great deal. No medication worked for my head until I tried this along with (magnesium citrate complex, tumeric & ginger capsule, Feverfew and vitamin b6). It took a good 3-4 weeks to work but once it did I felt back to being me!

      Worked for our daughter

Comments about Solaray Butterbur - 60 Capsules:

Used this to treat my 10 yr. old's migraines which were every day for 2 weeks. Tried one pill at night but ended up needing 1 1/2 to get through a day but now she is migraine free. We are going to take her off for a period due to it not being recommended for more than 12 weeks at a time but so far it's been a lifesaver for her. It has caused some tummy aches but the side affect was better than the horrible daily pain she was in. Also started taking an Omega 3 and multivitamins as well.

Comments about Solaray Butterbur - 60 Capsules:

I started taking this for migraines. I have been taking two/day for about two weeks now. Not sure if it is working yet, as I've heard it takes 5 weeks or so to kick in. However, I have already noticed a slight decrease in the frequency of migraines, so I am hopeful that it is working.

It won't make them go away but they will be less severe and less frequent. I'm so happy I found this, I was very skeptical and it's no cure all, but I appreciate being able to take the imitrex out of my rotation since that takes me out of commission all day.

Shoulder & Neck Pain? Use this!

        By Cindy

        from Sacramento

Comments about Solaray Butterbur - 60 Capsules:

I have almost constant shoulder and neck pain which can travel up the side of my head and end up as true migraine. Then I knock myself out with Imitrex. What a mess. I tried this about 1-1/2 mos ago, 2 tabs @ breakfast, one @ dinner, religiously. It is actually starting to WORK!!! For 3 days straight now, I wake up in NO PAIN. Get it, and stick with it. No more sleeping sitting up. Not expecting perfection, but if I can get to 75%???? Wow!!!!

Comments about Solaray Butterbur - 60 Capsules:

The expiration date on the butterbur appears to be 1-16-2007! That is unacceptable. I didn't notice it at first. Now I can't determine if the product is helping me or not. I would appreciate a replacement, preferably by Weber and Weber (where there this scientific evidence of it's effectiveness in preventing migraine).

Excellent product. I have been treated for migraines for 40 years with various medications. After using this product for 4-5 months my migraines decreased in severity. The need for most meds is no longer necessary. However once in awhile if I smell a strong fragrance or tar a migraine will start. But I am still able to carry on with projects after taking aspirin. Four years ago I would have been in bed with ice packs for a few days.

I had seen numerous articles recommending butterbur for migraine sufferers, so I decided to give it a try. After two months, the butterbur seems to be working. I am definitely experiencing fewer migraines, even though I am being exposed to many migraine triggers. I hope that these positive results last!

So how what extracting process do u use & does your product contain high levels of pyrrolizidine??? The roots of the perennial shrub generally contain high levels of pyrrolizidine alkaloids, which can damage the liver, so herbalists recommend looking for butterbur products that specify no pyrrolizidines, or ones that use a CO2 extracting process, which limits the amount of pyrrolizidine alkaloids

Best Answer: Not 100% sure but most likely yes. I used this product for a good four or five years without negative side effects and it did help my migraines. I showed my neurologist this one, and he works with the FAA, so as a dr. he told me it was probably fine, but that the butterbur by Petadolex, also at the Vitamin Shoppe, was a safer bet because that meets FAA standards and PA free, so I use that one now.
