Source Naturals MAGNESIUM MALATE is a compound of magnesium and malic acid. Malic acid is a natural fruit acid that is present in most cells in the body and is an important component of numerous enzymes key to ATP synthesis and energy production. Magnesium is an essential mineral in over 300 enzymatic reactions in metabolism. These reactions include those involved in the Krebs cycle (one of the body's main energy production processes), energy storage, the breakdown of fatty acids, protein synthesis, DNA metabolism, neurotransmitter activity and hormone regulation.

Have used this product for a few years for vitamin malabsorption I have because of the weight loss surgery. I also use it now to help with my fibromyalgia and the malic acid in it is a great source of help for the fibro. They are big, but I have no trouble swallowing them. Thank you.

Comments about Source Naturals Magnesium Malate 1250 MG - 360 Tablets:

This product "may" help to cleanse the liver/gallbladder. I read about drinking apple juice (malic acid) to help liver/gallbladder stones and instead took this product. It may have improved my liver function, I cannot prove this, but it is my suspicion. If you point the pill the long way in front of your throat, you should have no problem swallowing it.

Comments about Source Naturals Magnesium Malate 1250 MG - 360 Tablets:

I choke these down daily, but usually only get half as much as I'm supposed to take because these are near impossible to swallow!

I even tried crushing them and putting them into capsules, only to find out after a few days that if you crush them, the pills then smell and taste like something died.

This is probably a great supplement, but Natural Sources, please make them smaller and in a smooth capsule type shape so they can be swallowed!

It's gotten so bad that I fear getting one of these literally stuck in my throat and not being able to get it out.

Comments about Source Naturals Magnesium Malate 1250 MG - 360 Tablets:

I used to take toxic antidepressants, but am now "100% drug-free". During SSRI withdrawal, it is common to get "brain zaps". After doing some research, I found that Magnesium Malate is very helpful in managing and eliminating these brain zaps. I went to the Vitamin Shoppe, and found this product. It has been a lifesaver. I recommend it to everyone who is suffering SSRI withdrawal symptoms. As an added bonus, I used to get migraine headaches almost every day, and since taking this supplement, have not had a migraine in almost two months. Outstanding!

This is wonderful product. It takes time to work but it really does take some of the muscle pain away. And you do have to be consistent with the dosage. I found this product to be very helpful in conjunction with Enzymedica's Serragold, does wonders for fibro pain and inflamation.

I have a magnesium deficiency due to Lyme and all my antibiotics and low stomach acid and need supplements of it. It helps with aches and pains and my anxiety. I feel like this one is the best absorbed out of all of the magnesiums.

Best Answer: The difference is in the organic acid used to make the magnesium soluble and palatable. Malic acid's chemical formula is HO2CCH2CHOHCO2H=C4H6O5. Citric acid's chemical formula is HO2CCH2COHCH2CO2HCO2H=C6H8O7. Both are natural organic acids found in fruits. There may be minor differences in solubility, but otherwise the supplements should be equivalent if they contain the same amount of magnesium per tablet or caplet, and which you choose would depend on your personal preference.

can you break this tablet in half to better swallow?
A Vitamin Shoppe customer on Mar 5, 2015
Best Answer: The tablets are not scored, so it would be difficult to break them in half. They are coated, so they slide down easier than some others I have tried, but they are large. That said, this has been a very effective formulation for me. Good luck!
