(Unless we’re talking about keto, of course.) Though long regarded as something only bodybuilders needed to worry about, protein supports general health and well-being in a number of ways. Fail to get enough and you’ll face serious consequences.

Here’s the thing: while true protein deficiency is pretty rare in the U.S., not getting enough protein for your body to thrive is more common than you’d think.

Trouble is, it can be tough to know exactly where our weight loss is coming from—especially at first. Here’s how to tell if you’re losing water weight instead of fat.

Here’s the thing: your body is made up of about 60% water, which means even small changes in hydration can cause the scale to jump around.

A deload is a planned break—typically lasting about a week—from your regular training schedule. But instead of taking that time completely off (though that’s an option, too), you reduce your workouts’ volume, frequency, and/or intensity.

“After you’ve been in a training program for quite a long time, assuming the intensity and frequency have been pretty high, a deload week is very much needed,” says Chad Barribeau, C.S.C.S., field support director for D1 Training.

Like other amino acids, BCAAs help your body create the proteins that build and repair muscle. But BCAAs are unique in their ability to boost your gains. For one, your body can absorb the BCAAs more quickly than other amino acids and proteins, which means no time is wasted delivering these protein-builders to damaged muscle tissue.

After all, it is the hormone that gives them their libido, strength, and so much more.

Unfortunately, testosterone levels begin to drop after age 30—by about one percent per year, according to the Mayo Clinic. Given that, it’s only natural to worry about keeping testosterone levels up as the years go by.

“Although testosterone is normally associated with sex drive, this hormone impacts many other health aspects including bone density, energy levels, weight, and mood,” says Anthony Puopolo, M.D., family medicine physician and chief medical officer of Rex MD, a telemedicine company that focuses on men’s health.

(That multiple-muscle action also means more calories burned per rep, by the way.)

To see any benefits from deadlifts, though, you have to do them with proper form.

Sitting for long periods in the same position—hunched over your computer, for example—puts strain on your muscles and joints, causing tightness, pain, and poor mobility.

That doesn’t mean it’s either quit your desk job or be doomed to a lifetime of rounded shoulders, though. You can save your posture, as long as you’re willing to put in the work.
