If you\u2019re following the nutrition principles I outlined back in that very first article, you\u2019re already focusing on eating nutrient-dense foods\u2014and you\u2019re probably doing just fine with getting the nutrients you need. Plus, since our bodies are all uniquely our own, your supplementation should be tailored to your individual needs.<\/p>\n<p>That said, there are a few supplements that have worked well for my clients and me\u2014and may be worth considering.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>A Multivitamin<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>When life gets busy, when we\u2019re traveling, or just making not-so-fabulous food choices, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vitaminshoppe.com\/c\/multivitamins\/N-892\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">multivitamin <\/a>can help us make up the difference for any nutrients we\u2019re missing out on.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>B-Complex<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vitaminshoppe.com\/c\/vitamin-b\/N-882\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">B vitamins<\/a> are hugely important for helping your body convert the food you eat into energy. They also help us form blood cells. But since they\u2019re mainly found in animal products like meat, eggs, and dairy, you may be falling short if you\u2019re playing for team plant-based. It\u2019s also important for immune health. And though we can get it by spending time in the sun, it\u2019s pretty tough to find in food\u2014and about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/21310306\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">40 percent<\/a> of American adults are deficient.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Vitamin K2<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Though <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vitaminshoppe.com\/c\/vitamin-k\/N-88x\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">K2 <\/a>doesn\u2019t get as much attention as calcium or vitamin D for bone health, it\u2019s also a key player in supporting strong, healthy bones.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Fish Oil (Omega-3s)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vitaminshoppe.com\/c\/omega-fatty-acids\/N-8az\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">omega-3 fatty acids<\/a> DHA and EPA in fish oil help support your heart, brain, and eye health\u2014which the Standard American Diet is typically lacking.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Magnesium<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The mineral <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vitaminshoppe.com\/c\/magnesium\/N-8dt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">magnesium <\/a>is needed for over 300 chemical reactions in the body and helps to produce energy, maintain muscle function, and support the nervous system. But the simple fact of the matter is, life isn\u2019t perfect and sometimes our diets break a little here and there.
