href=\"https:\/\/www.vitaminshoppe.com\/c\/the-collagen-shoppe\/N-cp99v0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hydrolyzed collagen<\/a>, along with a few other skin-loving ingredients like 90 milligrams of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vitaminshoppe.com\/c\/vitamin-c\/N-cp99i1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">vitamin C<\/a> (which protects against environmental damage that causes aging), 15 milligrams of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vitaminshoppe.com\/c\/hair-skin-nails\/N-cp99if\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">biotin<\/a> (the B vitamin that supports strong skin, hair, and nails), and hydrators like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vitaminshoppe.com\/c\/skin-care\/N-cp99mp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hyaluronic acid<\/a>, cucumber extract, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vitaminshoppe.com\/c\/skin-care\/N-cp99mp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">aloe vera<\/a> extract. The label references a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/23949208\">study<\/a> that found that 2.5 grams of collagen per day increased skin elasticity after just four weeks, so considering the beauty shots contained twice that amount of collagen, I was optimistic!<\/p>\n<!-- Shortcode [rr-products] does not match the conditions -->\n<p>\u201cWhen we take collagen, it gets broken down into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vitaminshoppe.com\/c\/amino-acids\/N-cp99ic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">amino acids<\/a> by our digestive system,\u201d says <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northernvirginiadermatology.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Monique Chheda<\/a>, M.D., board-certified dermatologist. \u201cThese amino acids are then absorbed through the gut.\u201d Once absorbed, collagen can be utilized throughout our entire body\u2014not just our skin\u2014so there\u2019s no guarantee where it\u2019ll end up, she explains. (Collagen is also important for gut and joint health.) Though more research is needed on collagen\u2019s skin benefits, both docs I spoke with said there certainly wouldn\u2019t be any downsides to getting more of it!<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Shots, Anyone?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>As a beauty writer, I have access to the best skin-care products (#workperks) and know I have to be very diligent with sunscreen, so my skin started off in pretty good shape. That said, though, I have started to notice itty-bitty lines forming at the corners of my eyes, and that my face looks more tired and dull than it did in my early and mid-20s.<\/p>\n<p><noscript><img I\u2019m exposed to living in New York City\u2014I was pumped to add these beauty shots to my daily routine and see whether I\u2019d notice any differences after a month.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related: You?<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I kept the rest of my relatively low-maintenance beauty routine exactly the same so I could measure whether or not the collagen shots were doing anything: I used a gentle <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vitaminshoppe.com\/c\/cleansers-toners\/N-cp99mw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">facial cleanser<\/a> morning and night, applied <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vitaminshoppe.com\/c\/sun-insect-protection\/N-cp99mu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sunscreen<\/a> in the morning, and continued my usual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vitaminshoppe.com\/c\/moisturizers-serums\/N-cp99mx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">retinol serum<\/a> before bed (retinol is the gold standard wrinkle-fighting ingredient). Once a week, I slathered on a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vitaminshoppe.com\/c\/masks\/N-cp99n0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">brightening face mask<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m always in a rush to get to the office on time in the morning, so I stashed my shots in my bag the night before so I wouldn\u2019t forget to take them. Still, I got home from work most days that first week only to find the shot still in my bag\u2014so I had my first few shots for dessert. Once I started taking them out of my bag as soon as I sat down at my desk, though, getting into the routine grew easier. On crazy-busy days, I often didn\u2019t get around to imbibing until the afternoon, so instead of going out for my usual iced hibiscus tea at three o\u2019clock, I made the beauty shots my afternoon treat. (I consider the four bucks a day I saved a major perk of the experiment.) I even packed a few shots with me on a long weekend of traveling for a friend\u2019s wedding, and knocked them back before moving onto more traditional celebratory beverages (a.k.a. actual shots).<\/p>\n<p>I expected the shots\u2019 watermelon mint flavor to be overly sweet and artificial (when I hear anything is watermelon-flavored, I automatically assume it\u2019s going to taste like a Jolly Rancher), but it was really delicious! Nice and subtle with no weird aftertaste. And despite all of the ingredients in there, the shots went down like water. I worried they\u2019d be goopy or chalky, but they had a thin, pleasant texture. I came to really enjoy drinking my shot every afternoon, and was sad when my 30 days were up.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>My Complexion, A Month Later<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>After 30 days of dutifully downing my shots, I didn\u2019t notice a change in the wrinkles around my eyes\u2014but I <em>did<\/em>, however, notice that my complexion looked all-around glowier than usual. I even stopped applying under-eye <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vitaminshoppe.com\/c\/foundation-concealer\/N-cp99n2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">concealer<\/a>!
