Song<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, M.D., Stanford- and UCSF-trained holistic pediatrician. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAbout <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/healthyschools\/chronicconditions.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">25 percent<\/a> of children aged two to eight in the U.S. have been diagnosed with some type of chronic disease, which creates a greater need for certain nutrients,\u201d says Song. \u201cNow more than ever, our children have increased nutritional needs, even with the best diet.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As many parents know, kids don\u2019t exactly pine for the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/media\/releases\/2014\/p0805-fruits-vegetables.html#:~:text=Recommendations%20for%20the%20amount%20of%20fruit%20and%20vegetables%20children%20should,1%2D3%20cups%20for%20vegetables.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">recommended<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> one to three cups of fruits and veggies daily. Because of this, they tend to<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0eat more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vitaminshoppe.com\/blog\/how-to-cut-processed-foods\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">processed foods<\/a>, which are significantly less nutrient-dense and may contribute to the disease epidemic, says Maya Shetreat, M.D., an integrative pediatric neurologist and author of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Dirt-Cure-Healthy-Happy-Child\/dp\/147679698X\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Dirt Cure.<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It&#8217;s important to discuss your child&#8217;s nutritional needs with a healthcare provider experienced in nutrition and supplements. \u201cTheir conventional pediatrician may or may not qualify,&#8221; Shetreat says. &#8220;They often have no experience in nutrition or dismiss the benefits of supplements.\u201d (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is especially important if your child has specific health concerns, takes medications, or has a known insufficiency or deficiency.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With that in mind, the following six children&#8217;s supplements are some of the most beneficial.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>1. A Multivitamin\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the most basic children&#8217;s supplements is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vitaminshoppe.com\/c\/vitamins-supplements\/children-s-health\/children-s-multivitamins\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">multivitamin<\/a>, which\u00a0is composed of all of the essential nutrients they need.
