More and more research continues to be done on various medicinal mushrooms, and has shown that they can help <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/28231175\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">support metabolic health, cardiovascular function, healthy weight maintenance, and more<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. As a neurologist and herbalist, I absolutely adore all things mushrooms; I eat them, teach about them, prescribe them, and even forage my own.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Why I Love Mushrooms<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most people don&#8217;t think of mushrooms as being a highly nutritious food, but they are actually tremendously nutrient-dense. They have a high <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vitaminshoppe.com\/c\/protein-fitness\/protein-powders\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">protein<\/a> content \u2014up to 45 percent!\u2014and contain <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vitaminshoppe.com\/c\/digestion-gut-health\/fiber\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fiber<\/a>, trace elements, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vitaminshoppe.com\/c\/vitamins-supplements\/letter-vitamins\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">vitamins<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vitaminshoppe.com\/c\/vitamins-supplements\/minerals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">minerals<\/a>. Even the ordinary <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/28885559\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">white button mushrooms<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> you can buy in any grocery store have been shown to increase your gut&#8217;s microbial diversity and help you fight infections in your digestive tract.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That said, some mushrooms are particularly medicinal and have been well-studied. Here are some of my favorites.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>1. Lion\u2019s Mane<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vitaminshoppe.com\/c\/herbs-natural-remedies\/popular-herbs\/mushrooms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lion\u2019s mane mushroom<\/a> is an amazing helper for healthy brain function by supporting neurogenesis.
