If, for example, you drink too much water and don\u2019t also take in electrolytes, your electrolyte-fluid balance can get thrown out of whack. \u201cThe water ends up diluting your electrolytes,\u201d explains Matheny. When this happens, your body will usually try to regain balance by excreting extra liquid. As such, you aren\u2019t necessarily more hydrated than you were before guzzling. In extreme cases, this kind of imbalance can even lead to arrhythmia, nausea, vomiting, and even death, according to Matheny.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For those times when you’re sure to sweat buckets, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vitaminshoppe.com\/c\/protein-fitness\/performance-supplements\/hydration-endurance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">electrolyte supplements<\/a> come to the rescue. Though that might sound like a lot, you lose more sodium than other electrolytes through sweat and need to replenish it, she explains.
