There are all kinds of fish oil out there. I personally take fish oil to control high triglycerides. I didn't want to take the prescription fish oil Lovaza due to the fact that my insurance company (Blue cross/blue shield) doesn't cover the expenses beyond a small amount at a time. It's important to note that a very high quality fish oil like Lovaza does make a tremendous difference in the way it metabolizes in your body compared to a non-regulated and cheaper fish oil (it has to do with the way the oil is process and filtered). I hoped to instead find an over-the-counter quality fish oil and have been using the vitaminshoppe's brand for the past year with decent results. I've watched my triglycerides fall from the high 500's to a manageable and normal mid 100's. I'm taking 6 per day to achieve this ... I'd also like to point out that taking this fish oil alone has allowed me to discontinue my cholesterol meds as it has also helped to manage my overall and bad cholesterol to normal levels on this fish oil alone (overseen by my Dr). I had previously been taking gemfibrozil and simvistatin. I did NOT achieve this success with cheaper grocery chain fish oil supplements, of which I have tried several. I'm not sure of the vitaminshoppe's brand control and process but so far I've been very happy with the results. I agree with other reviewers that it does have a fishy odor and aftertaste (fishy burps), but nothing I can't easily get past. I hope this is helpful to some of you.

I recently read that if you freeze the softgels and take it frozen, by the time it melts it's part way down and you will not burp that fish taste.

Comments about Vitamin Shoppe Omega 3 Fish Oil 300 Epa / 200 Dha - 300 Softgels:
My husband has IgA nepropathy and takes high doses of fish oil to help slow the disease progression. I've compared a lot of fish oils from various stores, and this is the best quality at the price. When comparing to other brands make sure you compare the EPA and DHA content (these are the Omega3s that have been shown to help lower cholesterol, etc). You can find other cheaper fish oils, but... you get what you pay for. If you are taking fish oil to acheive real health benefits, I highly recommend this brand.

I can't say that it "works," who knows? But I do know that these gel capsules go down nice and easy and for vegans like me who do not eat fish, two a day makes me feel insured that I have enough fish oil daily.

$40 for fish oil? That's way to much! you can get 4 bottles of fish oil from vitamin world with does 40 bucks

You must look at EPA/DHA content in each softgel. You must take 2 vitamin world brand softgels to equal 1 of this strength. You do pay more for convenience. It's all about convenience for me.

I also have the same comment. Most of the cheaper fish oils contain 180 EPA and 120 DHA. Y

When you take the top off the container it smells like anchovies! Worst fish smell I have ever experienced and I have been taking fish oil for a long time. Yuk!

Return it. You must have a bottle with a broken capsule(s). We have been using this product for over 5 years with no smells.

THIS IS A GREAT PRODUCT, BUT IT IS JUST FISH OIL. LOCAL STORE HAS FISH OIL AT LESS THAN $ 20.00 FOR 400 - 1000mg.

Yes I think your right Overpriced

Cheaper versions are not purified and contain harmful mercury levels.
>> A Vitamin Shoppe Customer commented on this review on 2010-02-20
Cheaper versions have only 180 EPA and 120 DHA (or even less, so you have to take 2 to equal one of these capsules. Do yourself a favor and learn to read the ingredients and potency's to better compare apples to apples!

Only salmon oil.
This a great and safety omega 3. I have used in the last 6 years. There are many omega 3 very cheap but so dangerous, because they have mercury and PCV's. Vitamin Shoppe buys this product in a Canada Factory that has a great quality control because it uses molecularly distillation process, that is the best one.
All my patients with cancer uses this product that helps them to attack this illness. Mar 22, 2013
