Most vitamins are better taken with food, they are absorbed better and are more likely not to bother your digestion. Splitting the dosage to one in the morning and one at noon or nite is preferable also.

ON THIS TOPIC, phrasing of the online references SEEMS to be almost identical word-for-word ACROSS these several (seemingly) "authoritative" websites (WebMD, MayoClinic, Wikipedia, NY Times, etc.)

The limiting factor SEEMS TO BE the TYPE of Calcium, NOT the type or form of vitamin D. Otherwise (if the FORM of the calcium is NOT calcium carbonate), one takes the supplement WITH food.

IMO Vitamin Shoppe SHOULD clarify instructions for this and all their products. Concern about vitamin interactions has also been expressed.

  I usually take it with breakfast but at night I take 2 more capsules just before bed with no ill effects. So, for me, I would say, "yes, it can be taken without food".

  Yes.Under 'other ingredients' it is listed as magnesium stearate but it's listed as the fourth on a list of six (which in theory should contain less than the first, second, or third on the list). You ought to be able to pull up the label of these products online so you can see all the 'other ingredients ... I just can't remember how. Good luck.

  Some varieties of VS Calcium Citrate have magnesium and some do not. It's all a matter of reading the fine print. I hope that helps.
