I've been using this coconut for baking, frying, eating raw, mixing in smoothies and putting on my skin. and I love it. I appreciate that it's in a dark jar so it isn't degraded by UV light like other coconut oils.

I've always trusted the Barleans name.
I like this coconut oil, because it smells and taste a bit like the real thing....I would like them to provide their products in a glass container instead of plastic...that's the only reason I give it a 4.

I've used this as a substitute for butter in both the batter and icing in my coconut cake. I've used it to flavor cooked vegetables, such as green beans. I've used it on toast. I've sauteed eggs and vegetables with it. It's great in oatmeal. My daughter in law went through chemotherapy recently and uses it on her skin and scalp. My best friend loves to eat a spoonful occasionally.

The taste and aroma are intoxicating!

Bernie C asked: Which do you recommend more - oil or solid? May 29, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Kathleen S: I like them both. I think the solid is easier to use for sautee-ing vegetables or cooking eggs in. The liquid oil is easier to use in recipes because you don't have to go through the step of melting it first. Even so, the solid is good for that, too, because it's easier to measure and get the whole thing out rather than scraping the measuring cup. Really 6 of one, 1/2 dozen of the other. They taste the same and work the same within a recipe. May 29, 2013

Donna F: This is actually a solid. All of the coconut "oils" I've purchased are in solid form. I really like Barlean's the best - it has a wonderful smell. It will melt quickly for cooking. You don't really have a big coconut taste. For example - I make veggie omelets with this instead of butter. And, it's also fantastic for using on dry skin. Love this product! May 29, 2013
Reply to Donna Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
maria l: I bought the solid. Haven't tried liquid coconut oil yet. One heaping spoonful of the solid seem to go a long way for me. I use it for vegetables stir-fry, panko crusted shrimp (about 6-7 pieces) and tilapia. Oh, and the sweet plantains! May 29, 2013
Reply to maria Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
MICHAEL T: Coconut oil is a solid below about 75F. Above that it melts and becomes a liquid. It is always sold from the stores as a solid. Left out at home in the summer it will turn into a liquid. May 30, 2013
Reply to MICHAEL Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Tamer S: The product is like a solid form, but once applied it melts nicely into an oil. Never used a solid form of coconut. The oil works nicely for many different applications. May 29, 2013

Celia B: Barleans is very good softer than some solids cold pressed extra virgin organic and delicious taste..
if it is warm environment it will melt.

Heather P: I use both, solid & liquid. Depends on what I am using it for. This one is in solid form, but will melt when it gets warm. May 29, 2013

            Terri R: Hi!

You need a shower cap and about 1 1/2 hours of time. The best way is to take your shower and wash your hair. Dry it out somewhat with towel and apply about the size of a quarter to hair. Put on shower cap and leave on hair for an hour. Rinse out with warm water. You may find that the first time not to do it when your going out since your experimenting. You will have to judge by the condition of your hair how often to repeat.

PS. The coconut oil is also GREAT for your skin!

Karla A: Hi! I'd use a small amount as a leave in condition. For example, if you have dry ends, just put it their. Be mindful that this isn't going to rinse out. You can use it on wet or dry hair, but I'd put it on dry hair until you're sure about how much you want to use. Apr 7, 2014

Michaela R: It is expeller cold pressed, no heat involved. All coconut oil goes through some level of processing. This process leaves the oil in its original state. Mar 13, 2014

Bernie C asked: One tablespoon has 65% of Saturated Fats daily allowance...what's the upside of using this and how much do you use daily as a liquid oil? May 29, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Karla A: From your question it sounds like you're assuming that all saturated fats are alike. They aren't. Generally, it's the saturated animals fats and hydrogenated oils that are the problem. So there's no need to worry about how much Coconut Oil you use every day. Chances are that you won't use much of it anyway. You can use it in coffee. It's a great substitute for butter on bread, and you can cook with it. I even like it on yams. And it's anti-microbial. Some say it burns fat. This product has far too many health benefits to list here, but Google Coconut Oil and you'll get the gist of how good it is. I've used it ever since I found out how beneficial Coconut Oil is for you. I haven't noted any down sides. For full details, review the Barlean's website. I also recommend Barlean's Greens to stay healthy and alkaline. And they both taste great. In fact you could put both items in a smoothie for a super healthy drink! It's expensive, so I don't usually cook with it. You could probably use as little as a tablespoon a day for the health benefits, but I'd research your own individual situation. And feel free to call Barlean's...they are extremely helpful. May 29, 2013
