    About this product

    What is Omega-3 Fish Oil?

    • Omega-3 fatty acids are polyunsaturated fatty acids that are important nutrients for the body. Omega-3’s are needed for various body functions, such as cell membrane health and integrity. Omega- 3 fats include essential ALA (alpha-linolenic acid), EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid). Omega-3 fats help to support heart, brain and eye health. Cold water fish, such as tuna and salmon, are the best natural sources, but most people don’t consume enough of these foods. They can also be found in plant-based foods such as flax seed and walnuts.

    • EPA and DHA are found in high concentrations in the brain and retina, therefore being critical nutrients for brain and eye health, as well as supporting healthy cognitive function.

It is true that the recent literature states that there is no proven benefit of taking Omega 3 supplements w.r.t. cardiovascular disease BUT it also has an anti-inflammatory effect which is very important as we ( medical research) learn that many disease states are brought on by chronic inflammation.I can certainly attest to the fact that my arthritic symptoms have improved considerably with the taking of Omega 3 fish oil.I used to take fish oil in the liquid form but prefer the gel capsule. No "fishy" taste.

Take fish oil every day for my heart and other conditions. Have an allergy to soy and discovered the Barlean's I was taking had soy. Love it that many Vitamin Shoppe products do not have soy. This fish oil does not either. Read reviews saying no fishy aftertaste & was excited to find it because I have a "sensitive" stomach (too many NSAIDS). However, for me, the fishy aftertaste is horrible/awful/disgusting/ disruptive! I burp fishy taste and get indigestion for hours (nothing helps). Have tried taking with food, without food (before I knew I would have this fishy aftertaste), with chocolate milk (usually "masks" most pills for me) and at night. Does not matter, still fishy aftertaste and burping fishy taste, even during the night. Gag!! Giving 2 stars because really like the "No Soy". Great new labeling by the Vitamin Shoppe too! Would recommend to a friend with the caution: if he/she has history of gastritis, ulcers, takes a lot of NSAIDS, etc. then may want to look for something else.

Is this Omega-3 still molecularly filtered? The older packaging indicated this but there is no indication that this is since the product went to the new labelling.

what is the source of the anchovies and sardines used in this product? I am concerned about the recent news of radiation in the pacific ocean and would prefer fish from other areas.

Best Answer: Years ago When the story first came out VS Omega was listed as safe. You would need them to answer the question, they should know the source of their ingrients.

Does this supplement contain 1100 mg. of omega3 fatty acids? My eye doctor wants me to take 2000 mg. a day. Labeling makes it hard to determine how much you're getting.

What format is the best for Vitamin D?
                  nicole r on Apr 27, 2016
Best Answer: It would not be fish oil. Vitamin D is known as the sunshine vitamin and your level should be checked by your doctor to see if you are deficient.
