Nicotinamide riboside (NR), resveratrol and sulforaphane promote healthy aging by replenishing NAD+, enhancing mitochondrial function and providing antioxidant support, respectively. Nicotinamide riboside (NR) is a form of vitamin B³ that acts as a precursor of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+), which plays a critical role in cellular energy production. NAD+ activates enzymes in the sirtuin family, considered to be master switches of metabolism and regulators of aging. Nrf2 is a transcription factor that supports robust, long-lasting expression of numerous genes responsible for phase II detoxification and protection against oxidative stress. Among these genes are glutathione peroxidase, superoxide dismutase and various phase II enzymes, such as glutathione sulfotransferases. Nrf2 also supports expression of glutathione glutamylcysteinyl ligase, which is responsible for a critical step in the biosynthesis of glutathione, a vital component of cellular antioxidant and detoxification systems.
