Can it reduce anxiety and/or panic attacks?
A Vitamin Shoppe customer on Jan 6, 2014
Best Answer: It is a non-essential inhibitory amino acid that can indirectly help with anxiety and eventually will reduce your anxiety. It is not the same as taking a sedative for a panic attack, which would work within 20 minutes. GABA gets more at the source in the brain that contributes to you experiencing over-anxiousness.

Best Answer: Among other things, GABA is involved in the production of Melatonin, which controls sleep cycles. I take GABA during the day and Melatonin before I go to bed.

Does this have anything else in it? my daughter has mthfr gene mutation and cannot take the gaba/l-theanine stress one because it has folic acid in it. Her body cannot process folic acid.

Best Answer: Just GABA. Science has found out about the benefits of GABA, so they add it to other supplements and pharmacueticals...they even add GABA to makeup! I have been taking GABA for about 20 years. Hope this helps your daughter.

I don't see anything in the warnings on it... Can it be crushed or split, or does it have to stay in its whole form?
A Vitamin Shoppe customer on Feb 9, 2014
Best Answer: I have broken them in half before with no problem. Since it is an amino acid I see no reason why you could not crush it. It is a wonderful product and helps me very much.

how long does it stay in your system? _ just took one pill
A Vitamin Shoppe customer on Jan 14, 2015
Best Answer: When you take a vitamin it is to build up viamins/minerals or in this case a amino that you dont get enough of. Gaba is a amino that people fall short of. So you take it to build up your level, Its not like a medication that only last 4-12 hrs depending on the delivery. So i take it 2xs a day and then take a break. I can tell when i have enough cause i get kind of a flushing feeling similar too the feeling you get when you take niacin but not quite that strong. Im very intuned too what my body needs and you can be too. Listen to your intunition that will help you so much. And take in lots of information on your health but be careful not all is correct thats where your intunition comes in. Ive been studying natural medicine/ healthy living for over 25 years. Gaba is a great tool i use often to keep anxiety/sleep patterns in check. Good luck. Enjoy your life.

Is GABA safe for use with children? With adults, is GABA safe to take with 5-HTP and is it more beneficial to take together for anxiety, agitation, and depression?

Seeing as GABA cannot cross the blood brain barrier to reach GABAminergic receptors, how exactly does this product work? It is peculiar not only because one is ingesting a "neurotransmitter", but that one can even be manufactured so readily.

Alongside this, what methods do you currently use to verify that GABA is being increased in the brain? Currently systematic measurement of neurotransmitters is not available.

                      Thank you!
