It is likely, actually I am sure, that I am highly sensitive to certain compounds that many people can take with only beneficial calming effects. Ashwaganda and Theanine as I have recently found, both seem to have sedative effects in except in small or very small amounts, to me.

Even given my own sensitivity which may not be very common, I would question why a company would put only 150mg of Ashwaganda in a sleep-oriented supplement and more than quadruple that amount in a multivitamin supplement.

On one visit, I recently purchased several supplements at the local Vitamin Shoppe recently. This item, Power to Sleep PM, and Taurine. After a couple of days I was sleeping for 10+ hours, groggy upon arising from bed, sleepy and unmotivated throughout the day while taking naps through the daylight hours.

I suspected the Taurine so I stopped taking that, the issue seemed about the same.

I stopped taking the Power to Sleep PM, I felt a little better but far from 100%.

I stopped taking the Testosterone Up, the sedation feeling gradually improved over the course of a day, and I woke up feeling good again the next day. I have not taken it since. I started taking the Power to Sleep PM and Taurine again and the sedative effects returned but not as extreme. I stopped to Power to Sleep PM and on just Taurine alone I was getting very good sleep with a slight calming effect but without any sedative effects.

Before the local store ceased selling CBD I was purchasing the Irwin CBD + Power to Sleep. It worked well in half serving sizes but was too potent in full serving size. Full serving size had 150mg of Ashwaganda, but I thought that too much CBD was actually the issue, erroneously I now believe. Half serving size which I continued to take would be 75mg of Ashwaganda and that has been demonstrated as tolerable to me.

Power to Sleep PM has the same 150mg of Ashwaganda, and again, a full serving size of this supplement results in grogginess the next morning, but not as bad as when taking the Testosterone Up formula. I would assume that a half serving size of the Power to Sleep PM would be good, as with the half serving size of the aforementioned CBD supplement, but I lack the willingness to attempt, now being personally concerned about possible long term effects of any amount of Ashwaganda on a daily basis.

The Testosterone Up formula full serving size has 675mg of Ashwaganda. If my math is correct that is 4-1/2 times the amount of what's in full serving sizes of the Power to Sleep supplements that I have taken. Again if my math is correct, and 675 divided by 150 is 4.5 on my calculator. If I divide by 75 or the half serving size that I could handle, 675 divided by 75 is 9, meaning a full serving size of the Testosterone Up was giving me 9 times the amount of Ashwaganda.

I have compared the labels several times, and the only significant thing in a significant amount, that the 3 supplements have in common that I can see, is Ashwaganda. Ashwaganda is, I suppose, generally accepted to be safe. Side effects similar to mine have been reported. Also, I have gotten the impression, given the number of recent studies, that research is still ongoing.
