What is important is the total amount of fiber you consume per day. A minimum of 25 grams per day is recommended by Heart Associations while wholistic Doctors believe it should be in the low 30 grams.
So the amount you need of this supplement, where a capsule is almost a gram, depends on how much food based fiber you are consuming. So, if you have a prepackaged meal, for example, it will tell you how many grams of fiber. Normally you will see fiber content is very low. A slice of even vegetarian pizza will have only 1 gram of fiber
Personally if I'm eating a sandwich with bread, pasta, other carb rich foods, I will take an additional half dozen or so of these capsules to help balance the high carb, low fiber food content. Normally I take a few several times throughout the day. Fiber supplementation is one of the most important supplements we can take. Hope this helps Richard.

I have used this product VS-2182 (600 capsules) for 28 years. There are 880 mg of Psylium (Plantago ovata) (husk) (fiber) and 10 mg of Lactobacillus acidophilus in each capsule. I've taken it to keep my colon clean. The Acidophilus keeps the ph balance in your colon with 10 mg of 'good' bacteria. It provides (4 million live organisms) in each capsule at the time of encapsulation. Those organisms are the good bacteria. The product is the best for the money!

And it depends on the rest of your diet.

American Heart Association recommends a daily fiber intake of 35 grams of fiber. If the rest of your diet is low in fiber--if you don't eat fruits and vegetables--then you might need to take a couple dozen of these psyllium capsules to compensate.

Yes psyllium husk has an appetite curbing effect but it is not a magic bullet. It is beneficial also for the digestive tract and in reducing the bad collesteral in the body. I have been using this product for many years.

  Honestly, I have not noticed any reduction in appetite. However, it does aid in regular elimination and in meeting the need for additional fiber in the diet. I have taken psyllium husk for several years and plan to continue doing so.

  I've been taking this product for over a year. I wouldn't say it curbs your appetite if you take the recommended dosage. You'd have to take about 12 at a time with about 16oz of water to feel truly full.

I would imagine that psyllium--being inert fiber--should be at least as resistant to aging as some delicate prescription medication. Provided, of course, that you had stored it as per the directions on the package.

I'm sure legally speaking VS would tell you no. However, my experience would tell you that fiber pills AKA psyllium husks contain inert materials meaning that they are not perishable and as such should be fine for consumption after the use by date.

  Personally, I wouldn't hesitate to use the expired Psyllium Husk. I once heard that (regarding expired PRESCRIPTIONS) they won't harm you but could be less effective.

  I wouldn't use it. It would be risky since psyllium is a plant product. Also don't know how effective the acidophillus would be.

  It depends on how long it has expired, a few months will not make much difference, 2 years is very questionable.

  I started with two—one in the morning and one in the evening. After a few years, I went to two in the morning and two in the evening.

  This is a single ingredient product: pure, ground psyllium husk; nothing more.

  The new bottle does not specify how much acidophilus, but the bottles, which I have ordered in previous years, with the same item number, stated 10% on the bottle. I did contact The Vitamin Shoppe about this same issue when I got the new bottles and they couldn't tell me except that items were receiving new packaging.

  I Can't be positive. But I'd say they are gel caps, not plastic. It says 'other ingredients: gelatin and water ' which I assume is what the caps are made of.

  I don't know if they are organic capsules or not, but they do dissolve quickly.
