For My Eyes
For over a decade I have been using this supplement together with other eye and vision supports. I feel that my years of investment is paying off. My ophthalmologist did a biannual eye check-up last week with findings that my optic nerves and retinas haven't changed or showed pathologic changes since 2011 when I started with her. Because of family history I am being watched for possible development of eye conditions related to aging. I feel safe and am very comfortable driving at night at my current age of 75.

Multi benefits for vision
Great supplement for vision support. Takes about 3 months to notice a difference from it. Studies show the saffron in it especially good for vision improvement. Includes the other ingredients that also assist with good vision. Glad I found it.

Is this supplement for macular degeneration? How has it worked for others? Is there another product better for macular degeneration?

I read where this has Saffron in it as well (20mg), however that is not listed in the ingredients. Why not seeing that a Life Extension ad claims it does?

Best Answer:  I have read that studies have found Zeaxanthin to be effective is slowing or even reversing macula degeneration. There is macula degeneration on both sides of my family, and I've been taking it for about ten years for that purpose. So far, so good! I think it is also supposed to be effective for general eye health. You shouldbe able to do a search on "zeaxanthin" to learn more about it.

Does this product help with dry eyes and night vision?

Best Answer:  I use this product at the suggestion of my ophthalmologist for the specific purpose of reducing and preventing macular degeneration. The label says it has olive & safflower oils and lecithin, all of which are lubricating. I can't imagine these would help dry eyes any more than taking fish oil does. I've been taking this for 2 years and night vision still stinks.

Best Answer:  No, not in my case. Cataract surgery helped my night vision and Systane eye drops (Walgreens) helps my dry eyes. I took the Macuguard for about a year, in the hope that I could fend off cataract surgery, but I had the surgery anyway. It's worth a try. Each case is different. Good luck with the pills.

Best Answer:  According to the label it has: MacuGuard Carotenoid Phospholipid blend, Phospholipids, marigold, extract (flower) providing 10 mg free lutein, 4 mg meso-zeaxanthin & trans-zeaxanthin
C3G (Cyanidin-3-glucoside) from European black currant extract (fruit). Other ingredients extra virgin olive oil, soy lecithin, gelatin, glycerin, sunflower ouil, soy fatty acids, beeswax, purified water, potato maltodextrin, annatto color. I didn't read Zinc.

I have been taking Super Zeaxanthin. Looking to get more. Is this the same product with a different name?

Best Answer:  Hi Margaret,

I have never used Life Extension's MacuGuard, only their Super Zeaxanthin. I looked up the Supplement Facts for both products on the Vitamin Shoppe website, and they do appear to be very similar. Both contain Lutein and Zeaxanthin, which are the main eye support ingredients. The MacuGuard appears to have some extra ingredients but I'm not sure how much of an added benefit they would provide. You might try contacting the Life Extension company for a better explanation. Hope this helps.
