I can't comment on the safety of all the ingredients for everyone, but I have used this product for years on my straight, semi-gray hair and couldn't be happier. It does not stain my skin, and if it spatters on my clothes or the shower curtain, it washes out. I do use Shout or a similar stain lifter but I'm not sure it's even necessary. I have never experienced any irritation on my scalp or hands. I will say that the gloves are kind of on the thin size but even if they break, the dye does not stay and washes off of my skin. I do recommend leaving it on gray hair for the maximum amount of time. I have also left it on longer than recommended by accident and it did not cause me any issues whatsoever. If you have not used this product yet, I think you will be blown away. My hairdresser can't believe how great it looks, and her colleagues ask her what dye she used on my hair to make it look so natural. The truth is, I dye it myself the week before my cuts!

  I recommended the product to a Jamaican friend of mine who also uses the product, but, it is very important for those with extremely curly hair to use the conditioner with the other products included in the box. She once used the product and excluded the conditioner and had extreme difficulty de tangling her hair immediately after using the product. However, the product, when used as directed, provides excellent natural conditioning and shine to all hair types that I know.

  This is more of light brown but not too light. I have dark brown hair and it still worked for me although on my next color I got the next shade after this which is the 5N and it came out better. I forgot the shade. Hope this helps!

  This is a medium brunette, but on the light side and golden in tone (vs a cool brown/ ashy). That's the best answer I can come up with I use it 50:50 with 5N which is darker. That works for me, as a medium brunette

  The medium brown tends towards the lighter range if your natural hair is light. I use 5N and when I used this one it was lighter, especially with my white hair.

  There is a chart if you can find this product in a Super Supplement store near you. Otherwise it is a bit of a guess, but you can't really make a mistake. I use 6N and sometimes 5N if I want it to have less red tones. What I was told is R is for red (2R, 3R etc.) N is for Neutral and I forget the other letter. The lower the number the darker the color and tone. I use N because my hair has a lot of red in it. I have never used the other letter color, although I understand it is for people who would have had black hair. It covers grey great! It is a super product. I have used it for years.

  I have found that 6N is a medium brown, with a little bit of a golden under tone vs ash (gray-ish). It's a very generic brown. It covers gray well.
I mix it with 5 N to get a color, that is a few shades darker, which I like. That would mean that you would use half a bottle of each colorant and a whole bottle of the gel. After you use whatever color or proportions once and see the results, you will be able to fine tune the proportions. Closed tightly, the colorant will keep for another month and be fine.

  There is some guessing involved. I only know the colors that work for me because I used to buy these locally, where they had a chart with hair samples on it. You can go to the naturcolor (the manufacturer) website and look at their chart although it will vary slightly depending on your computer settings. It should get you close though. I would avoid anything that's got Pomegranate in the name-they tend to be a bit purply. I think you should be good with the Sagebrush Brown. Good Luck!

I have been using this color for years, and I think the Naturcolor brand is of better quality than anything I used before. "Dark" is a relative notion: I would describe it as between medium and dark, but someone else may view it as dark. This color looks very natural. You may also want to go to Naturcolor web site, get their phone number, and ask them your question. I called them a couple of times, and believe it or not, the phone was answered by a human being.   The number designates how light or dark a color is. 1 and 2 are blacks. 3, 4, 5 are dark browns. 6 is medium brown. 7 is light brown. 8, 9, 10 are blondes. Use the "N" Series (Natural Series) of colors for best gray coverage. N colors can be mixed with the other series (C=Ash, D=Golden, M=Mahogany and R=Copper) to achieve desired results. For example, 7N (light brown) mixed with 7R (light auburn) will produce a light auburn brown that covers gray hair.

  Medium brown, I'd say. I leave it on 45 minutes after it's all applied. I am mostly interested in covering the gray roots, so I apply it thickly on roots and comb it through to the ends. So, my hair has its lighter highlights. I sometimes use only half of each bottle to touch up roots. (My hair is short). If you use the entire 2 bottles and leave it on really thick, you will get dark brown. I love this product and have been using it for maybe 10 years.

  No it's medium brown. It did not color my gray really well. So I got the next shade after that which is light burdock but still not dark enough so next time I will try the burdock which is the 4N I think. I have dark brown hair and my gray roots seem to be very stubborn so need a darker shade.

  I would call it a medium golden brown--it looks brown, as opposed to being dark enough that it seems more like a "warm black". It is not a dark blonde. I think that it is the color that I've seen on most natural brunettes.

  It does not contain any of those, or I wouldn't use it. You can see the entire ingredient list on this website site. There is propylene glycol in the fix, but honestly, you won't find any hair color *cleaner*
