The good news is that this is a high quality protein and the fact that it is free of artificial sweeteners means it doesn't upset my stomach. The bad news is that it really doesn't taste like vanilla. I don't even know what to say it tastes like, but overall, taste is tolerable, if not too sweet. The thing that really bothers me is how foamy it is. Unlike the regular (artificially sweetened) Gold Standard protein, this stuff gets extremely foamy and stays that way. I guess the natural sweetener has this property since I didn't experience that with the regular Gold Standard line. Bottom line, I like the stuff and I'm glad to have found a product that doesn't use artificial sweeteners, even though I think the foamy texture and not exactly vanilla taste are drawbacks.

I just switched over to this brand, so because it's maybe premature to rate it, to be fair, I'm giving it 3 stars, although if I were going by taste alone, it would be 2 (it's not gag-inducing, which would warrant a 1). I know it's a popular brand, though it is expensive (as a bunch of others have mentioned), so when I'm through with this container I'll try the chocolate, which Vitamin Shoppe says is the most popular.
As for the vanilla: Bleeeech! I have used several different products, and, idk, this is the funkiest-tasting yet. I can't even really describe it, as it doesn't taste like any kind of food, or anything, I've ever had before. It's got kind of a sickening overly sweet taste. I can't wait to be through with it.

Easy shake to mix and drink! I have seen great results so far in the first 3 weeks of taking it, great rocovery! I use it as my post workout shake and only use 4oz of water since it mixes so easy! could be a little more taste but overall, this is a great product!!

ON's Gold Standard Natural is wonderful: No artificial anything to give you intestinal gas or worse. Look at the ingredients in many of the other brands, and you'll know why I've stopped buying them. Here are my own ON shake recipes. Breakfast: Stir a scoop of vanilla into milk (2% fat), nonfat GREEK yogurt, and cinnamon. YUM! Keeps me feeling full and energetic for 5 hours (if the milk or yogurt has some fat in it). I'm sure you could use chocolate, but I haven't tried it.

I have been using this protein powder for years in my pre and post workout shakes. It is great mixed with milk or kefir, ice and fruit. I avoid all artificial sugars so this is great because it only contains natural Stevia as a sweetener. I also use it to cook with in my Chocolate and Pumpkin protein bars. It doesn't have any weird artificial taste like so many other powders do.

Don't listen to this, horrible advice. Powder doesn't taste half as bad as others. Also, you will develop a better taste for it the more you drink it. I don't add anything to mine and it's delicious.

I've tried MANY protein powders and ON is by far the best tasting, best priced and best quality protein out there! I am a weight loss patient and get the majority of my daily protein from powders. I've wasted quite a bit of money trying to find the best tasting protein powder and this is IT!! I will never buy another protein powder brand. Optimum Nutrition's whey products are really the way to go when you're looking for the best post-workout results. I use this product regularly due to the affordability, good taste, and nutritional benefits. Of all the protein powders on the market, ON's are definitely on the lighter side...really only giving you the stuff you need, while cutting out all of the unnecessary sugar and other junk that's in a lot of competing products. Plus, it's whey...you can't get a faster acting better post-workout protein, save for spending more money on another ON product like Platinum Hydro Whey or something like that. For me though, this stuff works just fine. I hear the chocolate tastes better than the vanilla, but I'm more of a vanilla person so to each their own. By the way, to the person below me...I would recommend adding organic cold milled (or preferably home grinded) flax seeds as opposed to using flax oil. Adding flax seeds to whey is a really great muscle building combination.
