120 Capsules with only 3 Months Left? Unacceptable.
Extremely disappointed. I ordered 4 items in late January 2026 at full price. One bottle (120 capsules) expires in May 2026-that is less than 4 months away. Simple math shows it is impossible to finish the 120 capsules before they expire following the recommended daily dosage. Another bottle expires in August 2026. This is unacceptable inventory management for a major retailer. I feel like I was sent old stock that should have been on clearance.

Vitamin Shoppe ALA 600mg is the one to buy
This VS 600 ALA is one of the most potent on the market. It definitely works to lessen the nerve/neuropathy pain. Harmless side effect is sulfur-like urine smell.

Vitamin Shoppe Alpha Lipoic Acid helps control Peripheral Neuropathy pain.
Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) was recommended to me by a Neurologist, for Peripheral Neuropathy pain in my feet, and it does help with controlling the pain. I get the Vitamin Shoppe brand ALA, as it was recommended to me.

Causes sever headaches
These gave me a severe headache!! To the point where I thought I needed to take myself to the ER. Even made me vomit!!! Stay away or try another brand!!!

Alpha Lipoic Acid
I thought I had ordered tablets but instead ordered caplets. I do not like the reflux I get from caplets. Unfortunately I opened them and cannot return them.

Best Answer:  R-Lipoic Acid is a different form of Alpha Lipoic Acid. I found this information through Google.

“R” Lipoic Acid is Biologically Active

Alpha-lipoic acid, the universal antioxidant, consists of two different forms (isomers) — R and S — that have vastly different properties. The “R” form is the biologically active component (native to the body) that is responsible for lipoic acid’s phenomenal antioxidant effect. The “S” form is produced from chemical manufacture and is not very biologically active. Alpha-lipoic acid supplements typically consist of the “R” and “S” form in a 50/50 ratio. That means a 100 mg alpha-lipoic acid supplement is providing 50 mg of the biologically active “R” form.

The human body normally produces and uses the “R” form of lipoic acid. This active form, R-lipoic acid, significantly supports healthy inflammatory response, is a potent free radical scavenger, and has been shown to be more potent than the combined “R” and “S” forms that ordinarily comprise alpha-lipoic acid supplements.1-11

I've heard there are 2 types of Alpha-Lipoic Acid. Stabilized which does not need refrigeration and non-stabilized, which should be refrigerated for freshness. Is this brand of the product stabilized Alpha-Lipoic Acid?

Do you take the alpha lipoic acid on an empty stomach ?

Best Answer:  I usually take all of my supplements together at about the same time as I eat (breakfast or dinner) as a lot of them are more easily absorbed if taken with food/some type of oil. However, I've taken alpha lipoic on an empty stomach many times and it's never bothered me. The label says you can take it with or without food.

Best Answer:  The usual recommended dosage is 600 mg per day (recently recommended by Dr. Perlmutter). Dr. Perricone recommend that the dose be divided 300 mg in the morning and 300 mg in the evening.
