“R” Lipoic Acid is Biologically Active

Alpha-lipoic acid, the universal antioxidant, consists of two different forms (isomers) — R and S — that have vastly different properties.   no, its both isomers S and R, which is what is just basic ALA. its more stable than just the R isomer, which has to be bound to sodium or potassium in order to have a shelf life

  Do not know what R acid is. I use this product along with two others for neuropathy in my feet.

  This product that I have used for years now is the Stabilized which needs no refrigeration.

  Please bear in mind that I'm no expert but my understanding is that the stabilized version is better absorbed and can be stored for a longer period of time. It also doesn't require refrigeration. There are, I believe, chemical differences but I'm not qualified to advise you on that.

  I usually take all of my supplements together at about the same time as I eat (breakfast or dinner) as a lot of them are more easily absorbed if taken with food/some type of oil. However, I've taken alpha lipoic on an empty stomach many times and it's never bothered me. The label says you can take it with or without food.

  I always take my Alpha Lipic Acid 600mg with a few bites of yoghurt, whether my stomach is empty or full. Seems to work well!

  The usual recommended dosage is 600 mg per day (recently recommended by Dr. Perlmutter). Dr. Perricone recommend that the dose be divided 300 mg in the morning and 300 mg in the evening.
