Change Noticed
I've been taking this Niacin for years to reduce cholesterol, 1 capsule 3 times a day with each meal. Never had a flush reaction. About a year ago I began experiencing heavy flushing, called Vitacost and they said there was no change in formula. So I ordered another bottle and did not have the flush. Next ordered bottle, flushing is experienced again about 50% of the time. Don't know why, could be my body has changed but I always considered this a good product flush or not.

Stay away from this brand.
Had been niacin from another company and ran out. I bought the niacin from the Vitamin Shoppe and started taking it. Within a day my hemroids began to be inflamed. I could not understand why until I realized the new niacin was the only change in my diet. I switched back to other brand problem went away. This may not happen to you but it did to me. The only odd observation I made about the niacin is that when you open the bottle it has an odder of mint. I have only ever smelled that with that brand. Don't know what it means.

I take one capsule an hour before bed along with inositol and Vitamin D. I sleep through the night. It's been wonderful!

Surpisingly Effective
I started taking the naicin tabs 3 months before my annual physical. The first two weeks, I took one 250gm tab each day. After that, I took two tabs daily. The results were surprising, my colesterol dropped from 203 to 181 with no other changes in diet or exercise. Amazing! I have had absolutely no side effects from this product but I did have a flushing reaction when I used another brand that I used when I ran out of this one. I stopped using the other brand after 3 straight days of the flushing reaction.

Scary reaction.
I had been taking another high quality time-release niacin supplement without problems. Day one of taking the Vitamin Shoppe brand of Niacin resulted in an itchy rash on one forearm approx. 1 1/2 hours after ingestion. I did not know the cause. Day two, at approx. the same time, I began an immediate and severe flush and proceeded to the clinic at work. The severe flush continued over my entire body, blood pressure increased significantly and I became slightly lightheaded. At first, it was suspected that I was having a severe allergic reaction and medical personnel wanted to call an ambulance. Through conversation, it was discovered that the only explaination was the new niacin supplement. I was questioned as to whether or not I had taken a hot beverage with the supplement. I had not. It appears that the supplement released all at once, and not on a sustained schedule. Very scary. Threw the new bottle away that day. No problems since.

Helped reduce my total cholesterol
I have been taking this product for about 8 months. My cholesterol had been consistently borderline at 220. After taking Niacin, Nutri 100 (for b complex), two red yeast rice per day, and dropping 20 lbs (low starch/carb but no other changes in diet or exercise), in 8 months, my total cholesterol number dropped to 169 and my HDL rose 10%. Great news since now I won't have to go on a statin.

Great for heart health.
I have two stents and was having chest pains and my doctor recommended taking niacin as a supplementary product to my cholesterol medicine. This product immediately produced a great feeling for me. I felt better circulation and no chest pains.

Is this immediate release Niacin?

Best Answer:  I've looked all over the bottle and it doesn't say if it's immediate release or sustained release (is that the right word?). What it does say in the directions, is to "take one (1) capsule daily, preferably with a meal." Sorry I can't give you a better answer.

What is the difference in effects of niacin, niacin amide, and no flush niacin?

Best Answer:  Niacin can give you a real hot flash and cause flushing. Don't know anything about niacin amide. No flush niacin comes in a capsule and supposedly dissolves farther down in the digestive tract thus avoiding the unwanted hot flash/flushing. That being said, I have had them "go off" early and cause heat flash/flushing, too. In any case its no big deal. Flash/flush lasts about 20 minutes.

What is the difference between non flushing Niacin and sustained release? What is the advantage of one over the other?

Best Answer:  My cardiologist said the "no flush" niacin won't do you any good. I take the sustained release and I do get flushed if I don't drink a lot of water with it. Been taking it for over 5 years now.

Best Answer:  I don’t think so but it does act the same way, except no flush. I’ve found it stopped my sensitive teeth and also took away the blues.
