Customers review summary

The Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey protein powder in Chocolate Peanut Butter delights customers with a rich, milkshake style flavor and smooth mixing. Many customers appreciate its 24 grams of protein per scoop, rapid dissolution without grit, and versatility in shakes, smoothies, and baking. A few customers note a faint artificial sweetener aftertaste or occasional thin consistency, yet most say it reliably supports recovery and tastes indulgent.

great vanilla flavor, mixes easily and provides quality protein

i really enjoyed this protein powder. the vainilla ice cream flavor tastes great and is not overly sweet, making it easy to drink after a workout or a snack during the day, it mixes well with water or milk without leaving many lumps, and the texture is smooth. i also like that it provides a good amount of protein to help support my daily nutrition goals. overall, it's a convenient and tasty option that i would purchase again

Unfortunately too sweet.

This review was collected as part of a promotion

I went back and forth on this protein each time I used it. The pros: it blends really well to a very smooth consistency. It didn't upset my stomach or cause any bloating the way other protein powders have in the past. And it's low calorie, and only 1g of sugar for a good protein pay off (24g per serving.) However, I couldn't get past how overly sweet it tasted. It overpowered the flavor to where all I could taste was artificial sweetener which for me was ultimately a deal breaker.

Is this product gluten free? It doesn't say anywhere.

Rich M.Jan 23, 2013

I see Maltodextrin and modified food starch listed on the ingredients, both of which are sometimes made from wheat products. So unless otherwise listed by the company, I'd stay away from this if you have gluten issues.

I would like to know if i can mix this protein powder with fruits, like a smoothie? Thank you!

S R.May 14, 2014

Best Answer: This is delicious in a fruit smoothie. Not only do you get the added protein and vitamins, but you get a fruit smoothie that has a chocolate taste. win-win

If you have never used protein products before and your starting out. Would you use this or a different kind?

A shopperJan 19, 2014

I use this product every morning 1 scoop of this and 1 scoop of isopure vanilla. I hope they do not change this product because it is excellent . It is like chocolate milk ...but has the value of eating meat . Love it.

patricia hFeb 23, 2014

This is a good starter protein. Good for first thing in the am or pre-workouts. Also a good supplement for those looking to get more of their calories from protein and less from carbs or fat if trying to get lean.

David LJan 19, 2014

I like using Whey tech 24. It has proven to be the best for me. If you are wanting a more natural protein then go with Gold Standard Natural.

What is the sweetener used in this product? I do not see anything listed in the product info. regarding this. Thanks!

Katherine CFeb 23, 2014

Not sure but it is some artificial sweetner. It is a low carb product. My doctor told me to be wary of protein drinks because many have tons of sugar. You can tell from the ratio of carbs to protein this doesn't.

HT MApr 1, 2014

Hey Katherine, Optimum Nutrition Whey Protein is naturally sweetened with Stevia extract and has no artificial sweeteners. Hope this helps! Kyle

Im trying to lose weight without bulking up when exercise, it this good?

Elia MJun 23, 2014

Best Answer: The only thing that is going to make you "bulk up" is maintaining a calorie surplus. If you want to lose weight(fat) you have to stay in a calorie deficit. This a a good alternative to a regular meal when you are short on time and can't prepare something to eat. Just remember; calories in must be less than calories out in order to lose fat.

Norman BJun 28, 2014

is this product kosher?

A shopperMay 26, 2014

No it is not, look into kosher whey protein shakes online

Christopher GMay 26, 2014

I think you would need to go to their web site get a break down of the product constituents and take this to your Rabbi! I would guess that as Whey is a milk product then you should refrain from eating meat for several hours before or after. The issue would be, if ON's whey contains additives that have originated from animal meat. If that is the case then the product would break the Kosher laws/rules.

Norman BJun 28, 2014

I'm not Jewish, and didn't read the label to check this
