  It's just a strain different than you find in most commercial probiotics preparations. I understand from a US-trained physician that Saccharomyces Boulardii is prescribed in a number of European countries for intestinal problems. It seems to work for me.

  Saccro B is one of the broader spectrum probiotics. Others, Culturelle and Florastor even moreso. You can google progiotics and learn more, especially what each probiotic contains and which work better for certain conditions.

  The unique feature of SB probiotic is that it is not dissolved by stomach acids, as are some (or many) other strains. That is why some think it is especially helpful for those with immune level concerns.

  I do not know the difference, but this was recommended to me by my gastro doctor after a bout of cdif.

  I'm not a chemist or nutritionist but from what I know about S B as a probiotic, the feature I like best is that it is not destroyed by stomach acids as are some or many other probiotic brands. My guess is that it would be okay to dissolve in water or sprinkle onto a a non acid food (not orange or lemon juice), so that it arrives in the stomach intact where it can do its best work. Hope that helps.

  Although we take the capsules whole, I see no reason other than product taste that would prohibit it being used without the gelatin capsule itself. I would however use it at room temperature as cooking with it might change its chemistry.

  You can if you don't mind it changing the taste of what you are eating or drinking. I take these daily with water and have had great results!
