I have taken this product for several years, and it definitely does help stop canker sores from occurring. I would take this if I got shingles or anything in that type of family of viruses.

I have been using this for years. My experience is that taking 1000mg every morning before breakfast has helped prevent recurrent canker sores.

BEWARE: New Capsule = Gut Irritant
This USED TO BE a great product. Then they changed from a gelatin capsule to a "veggie" cap. The new "veggie" cap is actually made from a semi-synthetic chemical called HYPROMELLOSE.
I FOUND OUT THE HARD WAY THAT THIS CHEMICAL IS A GUT IRRITANT, ESPECIALLY FOR PEOPLE WITH CELIAC.
I'd used the old gelatin-capsule Lysine for 15 years without any problem, so I placed my recent order thinking I'd be getting my usual product. Vitamin Shoppe didn't indicate there was any change in the product. In fact, right now, 6 weeks after I placed my order, their website STILL shows a photo of the old product with the label that says "gelatin capsule".
Because I thought I was taking my usual lysine, I didn't know why I started having searing gut pain. I thought I had an ulcer or other serious illness. I spent weeks conducting an elimination diet before I identified the cause of my pain -- Vitamin Shoppe L-Lysine in the new "veggie" cap. As soon as I stopped the lysine, my gut pain quit.
This HYPROMELLOSE stuff is really bad, especially for people with gut sensitivity.
Vitamin Shoppe should go back to its former gelatin cap. Meanwhile, I've switched to another brand from a different vendor.
If Vitamin Shoppe starts using HYPROMELLOSE in other products, they will be losing this customer.
Also, their website is false and misleading, causing illness rather than wellness.

Are these real capsules or are they tablets? How easy are they to swallow? I have a strong gag reflex. Have trouble swallow large tables.

What is the recommended dosage per day?

Best Answer:  I take 1000 mg daily and have for years to help bolster my immune system. Seems to work!! I also give it to my cats but only 250 mg in the a.m. and 250 in the p.m. One has gingivitis and it helps to control that. The other takes it as an immune system bolster as well as they both go outside and have exposure to other cats who may not be as healthy. Hope this helps!

I take an L-Lysine 500mg. at times when I get a sore or blister in my mouth, on my tongue, gums, etc. However the tablets I have been getting are so big I cannot swallow them.
Are there any Lysine products in soft capsule form that are easy to swallow?

Best Answer:  The Lysine capsules are much easier to swallow. They aren't small, but I take them with yogurt. In fact, I take all of my supplements with yogurt, and I find they go down much easier that way.

Anothre site suggested that this might be useful to treat Bell's Palsy. Any feedback?

Best Answer:  I use L-Lysine daily to prevent/treat herpes simplex, which occurs inside my mouth. Works great. Have not heard about Bell's Palsy treatment, but it couldn't hurt to try -- it's safe enough.

I keep a pitcher of fresh-brewed decaf green tea (bought in bulk from Amazon) in my fridge (add lemon juice & sweetener) & drink it daily instead of water. A surprise side-effect several years ago was that it cured my rosacea! I now blend it with hibiscus -- not only healthy, but delicious. Hey, you never know!
