Comments about the Vitamin Shoppe Iron Complex - 100 Tablets:

I am a 61 year old woman with MS. I have never had a problem with anemia until the last couple of years. The iron I purchased locally created a problem with constipation. This doesn't and my iron counts are headed up. Thank you so much.

Well, I don't usually write reviews of any kind. But before I began taking vitamin shoppe's iron supplements, I was always so lethargic. I will honestly tell you that within four days, my life was different. I had energy!

I have been using this item for over 6 years and have no problems with it. I have recommended it to a lot of my female friends who need iron supplements and they are very grateful.. It does not constipate you plus it has other minerals I am anemic

I like controlling the amount of iron I take. Too much can harm so I take a multi without it and supplement 3 times a week with this one.
                Gail M on Jun 1, 2015
It seems to be a more digestible iron supplement than ferrous sulfate.
                Melissa F on Jun 10, 2015
It absorbs better than most Iron products without the stomach upset that occurs with ferrous sulfate. It is everything needed to make blood in one convenient pill. Even gastric bypass patients can absorb this iron.
                Christina T on May 29, 2015
I thought I read that Calcium prevents your body from absorbing iron and should never be taken together?
                Greta R on Aug 6, 2014
Best Answer: Calcium makes it harder for your body to absorb either supplemental iron or iron from food, according to the National Institutes of Health. Calcium competes for absorption with iron in your intestines and reduces its uptake. This means that a multi-mineral supplement is likely not the best way of getting iron due to the negating effects of the calcium and some other minerals.

I take my calcium at night before going to bed, and iron in the morning.

You can also get to much Iron. The body does not get rid of extra like the B's and C's vitamins. I take Iron on Monday and Thursdays.

                ok for kidney patients?
                Oscar M on May 11, 2013
Best Answer: As always, it's best to consult your medical provider. Generally and only generally speaking, people with kidney disease will likely need supplementary iron if they aren't already making up for it in their diets. Ask your medical provider for baseline blood labs to determine your iron levels and do periodic follow ups to measure progress from any supplementation you may be taking. Bottom line: please consult your medical provider.

What does this pill look like? Is it round or oblong? Is it flat or spherical? What color is it, and is the color naturally occurring?
                DENISE S on Oct 3, 2014
Best Answer: Hi Denise, the pill is a naturally occurring brown oblong shape. It has no food colours or artificial flavours and contains many other minerals that give the body a great lift. It is also non constipating and this is important as so many iron based products are. It also is not difficult to swallow.

I hope this answers your questions as it is a fantastic product!
