Fish oil has to be refrigerated, because it is a polyunsaturated oil and, therefore, is very liable to oxidation. Sunlight will oxidize it, thus the dark bottle. Oxidation spoils any health benefits. My fish oil only becomes thick when it is nearing the end of the bottle. I just shake it up and transfer it to a new bottle when there is space.

  i do not know if it needs to be refrigerated. i refrigerate mine and yes, i do get a discoloration at the bottom. but i always shake the bottle before pouring each time, and this helps to eliminate any clumps when getting to the end of the bottle. i hope this helps.

  Carlson Fish oil is very mild and goes down easily. It has very little after taste, if it is taken immediately before food. However, if you take it after you eat, or without eating you might experience some "repeats".
Fish Oil is usually taken for "Omega 3" effects. Cod Liver Oil is often taken for its "Vitamin D". I think Carlson removes Vitamin D from their fish oil because some people were concerned about taking too much "Vitamin D". So, you might consider taking some of each. Because of taste, Cod liver Oil may be harder to take and cause more after effects than Carlson's fish oil.

  Fish oil contains other fish than cod so that you get the benefit of other fish.

  I cannot find where it tells how it is processed. I would call Carlson to get the answer. I do know this was recommended by Dr. Mercola who is very particular about processing etc. as a good fish oil. He has since become a fan of krill oil and sells it.
