Yes, it is a calming supplement, also try L-Theanine for anxiety and 100 mg B- complex supplement...... Hypoglycemia can also cause schizophreni, the shakes, insomnia, ect. It is the opposite of diabetes. High blood sugar vs. low blood sugar...there are several books about it. Some people are born with it and others can cause it to themselves by too much sugar intake.... alcohol especially. Eating frequently helps....small little snacks every two hours... even just a cracker. One of my teachers was so bad she could not even eat a whole apple at one time. Please just look into it, buy a book on HypoGlycemia it will really enlighten you

  Since I have always had a problem going to sleep at night and I did not want to take sleeping pills, my Medical Doctor had me take three 500mg of L-Tryptophan and 10 mg of melatonia about 1 hour before bed time, I have been doing this now for about a year and half. I feel wonderful I usually go to bed around mid-night and up around 6:30 in the morning. I feel great and not tired from doing this routine. They check my blood every 6 months and I do take other vitamins. You might also consider taking 1 L-Tryptophan 500mg during the day which my Doctor also suggested so far I have not had to do this.

  Hello Amy, ves it's a very good product for helping with depression, but it's possible to have an interaction with your medicament if you take the anti depressor! Please talk on your practician for use Tryptophan

  I use L-Tryptophan to help me sleep. I do not know about its effect on depression. L-Tryptophan occurs naturally in turkey. If you think about all of those Thanksgiving afternoons, when everyone falls asleep after eating all of that turkey, you get the idea. I have used it for years and it does help. Also, you do no wake up with a "dopey" feeling like you do with chemical sleeping pills.

  I use this product to help me sleep, especially when I am stressed, or unhappy. L-Tryptophan was used by my elderly mother-in-law for depression and she said it was much better than 5HTP. I agree, and find I don't have to take it all the time for it to help when needed. Because you have Schizophrenia I would suggest you discuss it with your doctor first. Hope this helps.

  For depression and Schizophrenia I think you should be making sure your vitamin D levels are in the high 50's. You should be taking maybe 10000IU per day for several weeks. Maybe look into using a Sperta Vitamin D lamp or high intensity lamp for light therapy.

The B vitamins are very important for this condition as well.

  Yes it is great for depression!!! I take 1000mg 4 times a day along with 4 B-1 4 times a day for stress and nerves. When things are really bad with stress I add 2 valerian root 4 times a day. It works great for me and my 19 year old daughter. we take no drugs and to really well. Hope it helps you. Sheli

  Is this brand of L Tryptophan distribted within the USA. I use to take this back in early 80's and the it was taken of the shelf due to some illness it caused. I loved it and was very sadden it went away. I have learned that it is important to take L Tryptophan that has distribution in the USA only.

  Tryptophan is usually used for relaxation to sleep, it can cause problems if you take certain medications as it may increase serotonin. I recommend you research it and I recommend consumerlab as a site for research

  Yes, if you don't have enough seratonin in your brain. According to my doctor it helps to build seratonin which is an antidepressant. I don't know about Schizophrenia but you could ask your doctor if it is ok to take L-Tryptophan with that condition. Hope this helps.

  Sorry I don't know that. I take 2 at night to help me sleep. I do so many things--yoga and other exercise--that depression is not an issue for me. I wish you well, and wish I could be of more help.
