Magnesium Citrate means, Magnesium is bound to citric acid (as naturally occurring in lemons).
Magnesium maleate means, Magnesium is bound to malic acid (Apfelsaeure) as naturally occurring in apples.
Both, Mag. Citrate and Mag maleate are easily, well absorbed when taken orally. Uptake of both is better than uptake of Magnesium oxide or Magnesium carbonate.

  The difference is in the organic acid used to make the magnesium soluble and palatable. Malic acid's chemical formula is HO2CCH2CHOHCO2H=C4H6O5. Citric acid's chemical formula is HO2CCH2COHCH2CO2HCO2H=C6H8O7. Both are natural organic acids found in fruits. There may be minor differences in solubility, but otherwise the supplements should be equivalent if they contain the same amount of magnesium per tablet or caplet, and which you choose would depend on your personal preference.

  Oxidation of fatty acid triggered by Magnesium 2+ ion (this is important), and the reaction proceeds in the mitochondria to form ATP, CO2 and H2O. ATPs are produced in the TCA cycle. Both of the citrate and malate are essential components of TCA cycle.
This continuous reaction indicates almost no difference between citrate and malate, therefore, uptake of Mg2+ ion need to oxidize fatty acid.

  I take magnesium citrate for muscle and heart health. Citrate is better absorbed than oxide. I've been taking it for years. I don't know why you want to take it so I can't say if it works or not. If you don't have any health issues whereby you shouldn't be taking extra magnesium (talk with a nutritionist and/or doctor) then I'd consider it.

  It does work but is harder for the body to digest. I found that the Chelated Magnesium is more easily digested and works just as well.

  This product is in a form that is easily absorbed by your body and it does work. I can tell the difference if I don't take it daily.

  The pills are very large, but they do have some type of coating to help with swallowing. If you can't swallow large pills, I would not recommend them!

  I have used Magnesium Citrate from Vitamin Shoppe for the last 3 years and I have found that the caplets are very easy to swallow.

  They are 1 inch by 3/8 caplets. so far I have not had any trouble swallowing them.
